Dos

• Have a copy of your House Drainage Plan. This can be obtained from your Local Authority in the event of a blockage, it will give the attending Plumber an overview of your system. Yes, generally he can get it himself but not at 9pm on a Saturday.
• Know where your sewer connection point is. This is where your pipes enter the Authority mains if there is sewer spilling out of here or a Manhole it may not be your problem. Give us a call we can assist you with this.
• Make sure that any Authority Manholes are accessible.
• Give us a call if your sewer is gurgling or smelling, this is generally an indication that there is a minor blockage. Calling during work hours could save you an after-hours call out fee, or embarrassment when you are celebrating your Mums 80th Birthday.

Don’ts

• Don’t flush wipes down the Toilet remember the three P’s Poo, paper, and pee only.
• Use a good brand of toilet paper the cheaper ones tend not to break up when flushed.
• Don’t pour Oil down your Kitchen drain you can put it in the Green Bin.
• Be careful what trees you plant over or near any pipes. Yes, trees do get into plastic pipes.
• Don’t flush drain clearing chemicals down the drain if you have let us know as they can harm our Plumbers.
• Otherwise bombs away!

Plumber Sewer Repairs

As the years go by technology has developed that allows us Plumbers to run cameras and water clearing jets through your pipes. Once the sewer has been cleared, we are then able to assess any damage.

Damage can be caused by a crack or a pipe out of alignment due to soil movement or the impact of tree roots.

Firstly, the fault may not require sewer repair. This will depend entirely on costs and these are impacted by the location and the extent of the damage. If this is the first time your sewer has blocked and the damage is slight, lets not jump in and spend a heap of dollars. It is best to wait and see if it blocks again.

Remember to be careful what you flush down your toilet as this will impact the frequency of blockages.

If the sewer does need repair, there are a few options.

As you can imagine, for centuries pipes have failed and the Plumber has arrived with his shovel and dug the pipe by hand. This method is still valid and, in some instances, the best way although we may now use an excavator.

In areas where there is limited access or the reinstatement of the area is going to be too expensive the pipe can be relined; this is a terrific method of sewer repair as it limits disturbance. However it is expensive so best to be informed of the costs associated with both methods.
